A quote from one of my favorite authors Luis Alberto Urrea expresses how I prefer to live: “Sometimes the world is so dark and bloody that you have to be brave enough to broadcast innocent joy. Dare to be naive. ”
I’ve been writing fiction and poetry my whole life. My first novel Beside the Darker Shore is due out July 2011, and I’ve had numerous stories and poems in anthologies and magazines, with honorable mentions in “year’s best” collections and a Pushcart Prize nomination. I tend to organize my life around finding time to write when I’m not spending time with my husband and daughters. I’m fairly solitary, though I like the small connections e-mails and blogs allow. I get charged easily from the sensory and emotional world found in words and music and run with the muses when I can.
